Project Management

What is a Project?

Pretty much anything new that you, or your organisation, wants to do. Projects come in all sizes and can encompass something as simple as a new work process or something major like moving your staff to a new headquarters in a different country without any break in service. Compuskills have expert project managers available to help you at every stage of your project, so if you think you may be about to embark on a project, take a look at our first steps guidance.

Whatever the scale of the project, they all have a few things in common:

  • Defined start point. All projects have a point at which everything begins.
  • A defined end point. Likewise, all projects have a point at which they can be considered "completed" and the activity becomes a normal work process.
  • Allocated resources. Each project will require the allocation of some resources, be this funding, personnel, office space or the like.
  • A project manager. Last but not least, the project manager is the person who is responsible to the project board for ensuring the smooth running of the project. A good project manager is an essential part of your business tool kit whenever you think you may be about to embark on a project - whatever the scale. A project without a manager is doomed to fail.

Project Management

You have two choices when it comes to managing your projects. You can use your own staff and manage the project internally or you can outsource some or all of the management to a dedicated manager. Whatever you choose, this is a decision that needs to be made early on in the project. At Compuskills we offer a variety of services which can help you decide on the best route, so if you are considering a project (of any size) then get in touch with us now and take advantage of expert advice.

Internal Management

This can be a good option for small projects or if you already have a dedicated project manager on staff. It does mean that you are either taking a member of staff away from their normal duties to run the project or, if you have a dedicated project manager, you are paying for someone you may not use all year round. Should you choose to go with this as an option, Compuskills can provide independent expert advice to the project board, and the project manager, on a contracted or ad hoc basis. For small projects this can give you the benefit of making sure your own project manager has a solid safety net should anything go wrong. If this suits your project then find out more now.

External Management

By outsourcing your project management needs you can ensure that not only do you have access to expert knowledge but you are able to control the costs of the project manager and ensure you are not paying for a skill set you are not utilising. By involving Compuskills at the earliest stages we can give you guidance on the best choices regarding an outsourced project manager and ensure that who ever you do choose is suitable for the task at hand.

If you are running a largely IT based project then your best choice would be to allow Compuskills to fully manage your project from start to finish. This way you can, as the project board, rest assured you are getting the best quality project management you can.
